Reclaiming the Swastika: A Journey of Understanding, Dispelling Fear, and Cultural Healing.
Project Statement
In this project, I intend to reclaim the ancient and profound meanings of the Swastika in the context of Hinduism, while also showing deep respect to the sensitivities of the affected communities. Through a comprehensive examination of historical texts, religious scriptures and contemporary narratives, the study aims to shed light on the original symbolism and spiritual significance of the Swastika in these religious traditions. By engaging in intercultural dialogues and educational initiatives, I seek to dissociate the symbol from its association with hate and instead foster understanding among global communities, advocating for a comprehensive reevaluation of the Swastika's rich cultural legacy. I will therefore help forge a path toward healing and education that encourages respectful engagement of and appreciation for the Swastika's timeless spiritual power. This study endeavors to inspire a renewed perspective, promoting harmony and new beginnings rooted in the symbol's ancient inheritance of auspiciousness and positivity.
The installation features four wings resembling the Swastika's arms, each serving as an entrance point for visitors. The central focal point is a pot elevated on a pedestal, surrounded by the intra-connected pathway. Additionally, at the entrance of each wing, there are individual pots, enhancing the symmetry and design coherence. The lush green mango leaves represent growth, vitality, and renewal. They signify the cycle of life, symbolizing hope and the promise of a new beginning. This installation aims to provide a unique and contemplative space for people to enter from any wing and explore the pathway. The pathway offers a balanced and harmonious experience, inviting individuals to appreciate the central element while moving around the wings. The pots at the entrance of each wing contribute to a sense of unity and purpose in the overall design. As visitors traverse the pathway, they will encounter a thoughtful aesthetic, creating an engaging and meditative environment.
