Interrogating Prejudice: Self-Reflective Practices in Visual and Critical Thinking
Project Statement
How can diagramming be used to examine the causes and effects of our judgements?
How can critical thinking be illustrated and embodied?
How might one see more clearly and compassionately in any given moment?
Combining critical thinking, visual communication, and Buddhist philosophy, Umhoefer encourages participants to explore their sense of judgement through contemplation and visualization.
Lifelong learning often leads to more questions than answers. Research is rarely settled, which means it can be both a generative yet admittedly incomplete process. The same can be said for a spiritual practice. This thesis is a current iteration in a phased, long-term inquiry into prejudice.
Social ills are rarely cured quickly, but we can take immediate antidotal action within ourselves, here in the present. For now, hold your conclusions lightly~
